Dragons’ Speed breaks career victory record

SOUTH POINT — The Fairland Dragons didn’t mind working overtime. The overtime pay was just what they wanted: A win.
Fairland outscored South Point 10-6 in overtime to post a 50-46 Ohio Valley Conference win on Thursday and gave coach Nathan Speed career win 322 and the school’s all-time wins record as he surpassed Carl York.
Fairland (3-0, 2-0) went 6-of-6 at the foul line in overtime to get the win.
Brody Buchanan and Keegan Smith scored 4 points each and both joined Cliff Fransen to make 2 foul shots apiece.
Brayden Hanshsaw scored all 6 of South Point’s total.
The Dragons made four 3-pointers in the first quarter and took an 18-11 lead. Fransen, Maddox Gue, Trevor Lochow and Smith had one each.
South Point (1-2, 1-1) cut the deficit to 27-26 at the half as EthanHunt knocked down 3 trifectas.
Each team got just 4 points in the third quarter and South Point tied the game in the fourth quarter as Handshaw hit a trey and scored 5 points.
Fairland got a 3-pointer and 3-of-4 free throws from Fransen and Buchanan was 3-of-6 at the line in the quarter.
Fransen finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Buchanan had 15 points 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
Hanshaw had 17 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Pointers. Layne and Hunt scored 9 each.
