Cindy Prater

June 19, 1959–July 13, 2024

Cindy Deeds Prater, 65, of Ironton, passed peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at King’s Daughters Medical Center.

She took her final breath holding the hands of her mother, Jill, daughter, Heather, husband, Mike, and surrounded by the love of her son-in-law, Eric and sisters-in-law, Jonda, Cindy and Susan.

She was born June 19, 1959, in Ironton, to her late father, Bob Deeds and mother, Jill Dalton Deeds.

Cindy was a graduate of the Ironton High School class of 1977.

As a forever native of Ironton, Cindy held many jobs over the years starting from the time she was a young teen.

She eventually settled into a career with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services where she worked until retirement servicing our community and making friendships that last a lifetime.

However, it was post-retirement that she found her most fulfilling position working as the clerk for the Ironton Police Dept. Cindy very recently celebrated her 10th anniversary with a job and coworkers that meant the world to her.

She was a beloved employee and the department has lovingly referred to her as “a mother to all”, and “the heart and soul of the police department.”

The family would like to thank the Ironton Police Department for helping carry Cindy through some of her most difficult days.

It will come as no surprise that her favorite role was that of “MiMi.” Nothing in this world brought her more joy than spending time with her grandsons, Wyatt and Bodie. To them, she absolutely hung the moon and stars.

She spent the last four years fighting a courageous battle with all her might to spend as much time with them and to create as many lasting memories as her body would allow.

To the boys, to her daughter, to her mother, and the rest of her family, MiMi was simply everything. She was the best of all of us.

With her heart of purest gold, she was a soft hug on a hard day, she was comfort in times of sadness, she was our biggest cheerleader in times of success, she was endless love and unwavering support that we are all blessed to receive and will truly hold in our hearts forever.

In addition to her father, she was proceeded in death by her brother (and best friend), Bodie Deeds. We take comfort in dreaming about what a reunion that must be.

Those left to cherish Cindy’s memory are her husband, Mike; mother, Jill; daughter, Heather and son-in-law, Eric Clark (aka “Sonny”); daughter-in-law, Stacey Prater-Ratliff; grandsons, Wyatt and Bodie Clark, granddaughters, Kennedy and Kaylee Clark, her “like a son” nephew, Alex Deeds and his precious daughter, Liliauna, special friends, treasures beyond words, Kathy Dillon Nenni and Lori Dilley Brownstead; as well as a genuinely beloved group of cousins, nieces, nephews, coworkers, and friends.

A visitation to honor Cindy’s life will be held from 5–7 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton.

Following, to honor her wishes and a loving quote “Where you go, I’ll go” between Cindy and her daughter, Heather, Cindy will be cremated and buried at a later date.

The family would like to take the opportunity to thank friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors for your outpouring of love and support during our heart-wrenching loss. We have been comforted by your love.

At the family’s request, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
