Constance Joann Fossett Smith, 91, of Ironton, died Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Harbor Healthcare Center of Ironton.

Mrs. Smith was born on Oct. 7, 1932 in Ironton. She was the daughter of the late Frank Fossett Jr. and Louise Carter Fossett Harvey.

Mrs. Smith was a proud homemaker who worked tirelessly in the many organizations that supported her children’s interests as well as their sports activities.

She was an active member of Quinn Chapel AME Church of Ironton where she served as president of the Daughters of Allen, president of the Missionary Board, member of the Stewardess Board and as a steward to the pastor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Herald L. Smith Jr.; a brother, Gordon Fossett Sr.; a son Herald L. Smith III and granddaughters, Donita Joann Sanders and Treysha Nicole Thomas.

She is survived by her children, Marva L. DuVall, of Cincinnati, Robert F. (Debra) Smith, of Hilton Head, Jacalyn J. McAfee, of Ironton, Bertha J. Thomas, of Mt. Orab, Bridget C. (Aaron) Johnson, of Ironton and Michael K. Smith, of Summerville, South Carolina, brother-in-law, M. David (Rowena) Smith, of Phoenix; 15 grandchildren; Damon Sanders, Matthew (Erica) Johnson, Alfreda (Charles) Williams, Dominic (Brianna) Thomas, Charlotte (Brandon) Rawls, James (Tiffany) Johnson, Justin (Ingvlid) Canty, Lauren Canty, Morgan Canty, Herald (Mayrie) Johnson, Constance McAfee, Andy Smith, Madison (William) Blewas, Jordan Smith and Herald Smith IV; and a host of great-grandchildren who loved their Granny dearly.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Quinn Chapel AME Church. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be 10 a.m.–noon Saturday at the church.

O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
