COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets sharpened up their stingers.

The Lady Hornets were stinging the softball for 13 hits en route to an 11-4 win over the Gallipolis Blue Angels in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.

Rylee Black was 3-4 with a double and an RBI, Kassidy Travis 3-3 with 2 RBI and Abbie Deeds 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI to lead the Lady Hornets. Shay Collins was 1-3 with a double and 2 RBI, Mia Hanes 1-2, Kasey Vanderhoof 1-2 with a triple and RBI, and Braelie Hitchcock 1-3 with an RBI.

Deeds also got the pitching win as she gave up 3 earned runs and 7 hits while striking out 15 with no walks.

Coal Grove (6-7, 4-2) got a run in the second when Black reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

Gallipolis (1-6, 0-5) took a 3-1 lead in the top of the third inning when Grace Truance, Sarah Thomas and Taylor Mathie all singled and Ava Angel doubled.

Coal Grove came right back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Travis singled, went to third on a hit by Deeds and scored on Collins’ sacrifice fly. Black and Haynes singled for the second run.

The Lady Hornets went up 5-3 in the fourth inning.

Hitchcock was safe on an error, stole second and scored on a double by Travis. Deeds then doubled. To cap the rally.

Coal Grove blew the game open with 5 runs in the fifth inning.

Black singled, Haynes put down a sacrifice and Vanderhoof had an RBI triple. Hitchcock singled home a run, went to second on a sacrifice and scored on a double by Travis. Deeds and Collins had back-to-back doubles to produce 2 more runs.

Gallipolis scored a run in the top of the sixth when Colbie Nida and Maggie Davis both reached on errors.

The Lady Hornets added a run in the bottom of the sixth when Black doubled, stole third and scored on a ground out by Haynes.
