Bennie Austin Morgan, 90, of Coal Grove, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

The Pedro native was born Oct. 15, 1933, a son of the late James and Chloe Markins Morgan.

Bennie was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and the Elohim Bible College.

He retired from the maintenance department of General Motors in Columbus and then was a self-employed electrician and plumber.

He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church in Coal Grove and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Freda Morgan; and four brothers, George, Les, Ronnie, and June Morgan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 69 years, Barbara Riggsby Morgan, whom he married June 18, 1954; four daughters, Donna Fritz, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, Trudy (Darrell) Lancaster, of Ironton, Cindy Sparks, of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Beth Morgan, of Columbia, South Carolina; one son, Tim Morgan, of Coal Grove; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends that will morn his passing.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Rev. Jim Beals officiating. Burial will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery, Waterloo.

Friends and family may visit Saturday, 2 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
