After a poor performance on Thursday in a loss at Coal Grove, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers returned to the court on Friday and rolled past the South Charleston Lady Black Eagles 52-27 in the Cabell Midland Tip-Off Showcase.

“We had the worst week of practice. We played terrible against Coal Grove on Thursday,” said Ironton coach Jeremy Williams referring to a 42-28 loss at Coal Grove. “I told the girls we couldn’t play like that today.”

After a 3-pointer by the Lady Black Eagles’ Annmarie Hersh to start the game, Ironton ran off 10 unanswered points and built up a 16-4 first quarter lead.

The Lady Fighting Tigers began the second quarter with a 9-0 run and opened up a 30-9 lead and ended the first half ahead 31-12.

Ironton outscore South Charleston 15-5 in the third quarter to make it 46-17.

Emerson White had a game-high 23 points to pace Ironton while Lola Hankins scored 18 points — 12 in the first half.

“It was good to see us bounce back. We played pretty well,” said Williams. “Peyton (Deer), Emerson (White) and Lexi (McCall) are long and have got a lot of turnovers.”:

Gracie Morrison scored 11 for the Lady Black Eagles.

The Lady Fighting Tigers host unbeaten Fairland on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
