The Child Welfare Club, organized in 1918, was one of the city’s most influential women’s clubs and still sponsors the annual “Eddy” Awards in the sixth grades of Ironton public and parochial schools.
Pictured are Mrs. Paul Kratzenburg (left) and Mrs. Dempsey McFann, chairman of the 11th annual Mardi Gras Charity Ball, sponsored by St. Joseph Boosters Club and to be held Feb. 23, 1963 in the Armory. The Lou Martin Orchestra was to be featured during the evening with the dance being held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Proceeds were to be used for athletic and youth programs of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A visit to Industrial Arts department at Ironton Junior High found a group of boys ready to exhibit their samples of vocational shop work in this 1963 photo. The youths were anxious to show parents “how things run” in the shop where many items were made under guidance of industrial arts instruction Bob White.
