Disc Jockey Steve Hayes of WKEE radio began a 50-mile in the Ohio River from Huntington to Portsmouth in August 1983. He was photographed by Kenova around the nine and half mile mark and was followed by pontoon boat. His goal to swim 10 miles a day to raise $3,500 for a then-planned Ronald McDonald House in Huntington.
