William Washburn WITH PIC

March 12, 2005–April 27, 2020

 

“Will” William Christopher Washburn, 15, of Hurricane, West Virginia, passed away Monday, April 27, 2020, at Teays Valley Hospital.

 

Will was born March 12, 2005, in Huntington, West Virginia, to parents, Brian and Bridget Conway Washburn, of Hurricane, West Virginia.

 

Will was in the eighth grade at Hurricane Middle School where he was active in basketball, baseball, National Junior Honor Society, WEB leadership and was also president of the student body.

 

Will was a gifted athlete who played travel basketball and baseball for many years. He was an active member of the Ascension Catholic Church in Hurricane, West Virginia.

 

Will was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bernard Conway.

 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sister, Brianna Washburn, of Hurricane, West Virginia; an aunt, Stephanie (Jim) Connolly, of Elkins, West Virginia; an uncle, Brad (Mandy) Washburn, of Circleville; an aunt, Katie (Eli) Dalton, of Ironton; grandparents, Bill and Mary Kay Washburn, of Ironton; and grandmother, Kathryn Conway, of Ironton.

 

There are actions that create great moments, but greatness is measured by much more than a moment.

 

Will is great. He is kind, compassionate, thoughtful, talented, loving, helpful and passionate. His kindness has imprinted in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

 

He has left us with a new discovery that his greatness was beyond measure and that greatness will leave a legacy.

 

That legacy will live on in a foundation, the LLWW Foundation. Annually, the foundation will honor Will by giving two scholarships, one for athletics and one for character.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 57 Private Road 1059, Ironton, with Father Bill Matheny and Father David Huffman officiating.

 

In addition, a larger community memorial will be held at Liberty Square in Hurricane, West Virginia, at 4 p.m. May 16, details will be released for this celebration at a later time.

Judith Wilson

July 27, 1938–May 1, 2020

 

Judith Kay Wilson, 81, of Ironton, passed away Friday, May 1, 2020, at her residence in Ironton.

 

The Ironton native was born July 27, 1938, to the late Charles and Tora (Dalton) Markel. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ronald “Pete” Wilson, who passed away on May 19, 2014.

 

Judith was a home health nurse at the Lawrence County General for 25 years, where she retired in 1998. She was of the Baptist faith and loved to travel, as long as she wasn’t driving.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Nelson;

five brothers, Clifford Markel, Robert Markel, Howard Markel, Harry Markel, and Jerry Markel; and two sisters, Laura McFann and Fonda Markel.

 

She is survived by two sons, Randall (Kathy) Wilson and Ovid “Steve” (Carol) Wilson, both of Ironton; a daughter, Sandra (Gary) Sergent, of Ironton; four grandchildren, Randall Jr., David, Andy and Natalie; and four great-grandchildren, McKayla, Elizabeth, Levi and Lily.

 

Graveside services will be at noon Tuesday at Sugar Creek Cemetery, 94 County Road 44-South, Ironton, with Pastor Brandon Depriest officiating.

 

Visitation will be from 10:45–11:45 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton.

Jack Kingery

 

Jack Kingery, age 64, of Coal Grove, died on Saturday May 2, 2020, at Ashland Community Hospice.

 

He was the son of the late Thomas and Lillian Carpenter Kingery.

 

He attended Main Street Baptist Church.

 

He was preceded by three brothers, Fred McSorley, James McSorley and Thomas Kingrey and two sisters, Ruth Noble and Spicie Kreger.

 

Survivors include children, Shawn Neman, Laura Eckart, Jacklynn Kingery, Claud Kingery, Megan Mulky, Lillian Faith Kingery, and Levi Kingery; four sisters, Gladys (Howard) Sparks, Marg (Ronnie) Dickess, Paula (Rick) Rice, and Terry (Mike) Delawder; two brothers, Tracy (Diana) Kingrey and Dennis (Lorrie) Kingrey.

 

Private graveside services will be held in Woodland Cemetery at 1 p.m. Thursday, with Billy Markins officiating.

 

COVID-19 Ohio health regulations are requested to be observed.

Jimmie Aliff

Jimmie Aliff, 87, of Chesapeake, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, April 26, 2020, at his residence.

 

A private family service will be held at a later date.

James McMillian

 

James “Jim” Dale McMillian, 60, of South Point, died on Saturday May 2, 2020, at St. Marys’ Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.

 

He is survived by his wife, Deborah McMillian.

 

There will be no services. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville.

Daniel Tasker McMahon, 63, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Friday, May 1, 2020.
