COAL GROVE — Cory Borders made more than a cameo and he gave a pretty good performance.
Playing only a few minutes a game the past couple of weeks when he returned from an injury, Borders scored 12 points as the Coal Grove Hornets beat the Rock Hill Redmen 60-42 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Evan Gannon also scored 12 points for the Hornets including 6-of-8 from the foul line. Trevor Hankins added 11 points and Malachi Wheeler 9 points in the balanced Coal Grove offense.
Owen Hankins scored 15 points for the Redmen (3-13, 0-10).
The Hornets took a 19-9 first quarter lead as Wheeler hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points while Hankins got 4 points and Gannon hit a 3-pointer.
Braden Stamper had a trey and scored 5 points for the Redmen.
Coal Grove extended the lead to 29-16 at the half and then put the game away in the third quarter as the lead jumped to 47-25.
Borders hit a pair of trifectas, Hankins hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points while Gannon added a trey as the Hornets outscored the Redmen 18-9 in the quarter.
Logan Hankins hit a 3-pointer in the quarter for Roc Hill.
Coal Grove was only 9-of-18 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and just 16-of-31 for the game.
Owen Hankins hit a 3-poitner, went 4-for-4 at the foul line and scored 9 points in the fourth quarter whiel Devon Long added a 3-pointer.
On Tuesday, Rock Hill visits Portsmouth and Coal Grove host Chesapeake.
