PORTSMOUTH — It might not have been Chance Gunther’s best game, but it was hit biggest clutch shot.
Gunther’s 3-pointer at the buzzer lifted the South Point Pointers to a 64-61 win over the Portsmouth Trojans in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Austin Webb had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Pointers (6-6, 5-3) while Brody Blackwell knocked down four 3-pointers and scored a season-high 13 points.
Gunther finished with 14 points in the win.
Portsmouth (6-8, 3-5) had three players in double figures as Donovan Carr scored 18 points, Miles Shipp 16 and Dariyonne Bryant 12.
Blackwell drained three 3-pointers in the first quarter and Webb got 7 points including a 3-pointer as South Point took a 23-14 lead. Shipp had 6 points for the Trojans.
Webb and Gunther combined for 12 points in the second quarter as the Pointers built as much as a 17-point lead.
Shipp and Carr scored 6 points and Portsmouth went on a 5-0 run to get within 41-31 at the half.
South Point only managed 9 points in the third quarter while Portsmouth went on a 9-0 run to start the half and different players scored as Portsmouth to cut the deficit to 50-49.
Gunther had two 3-pointers including the game-winner in the fourth quarter and Webb scored 4 points as South Point outscored Portsmouth 14-12.
Drew Roe and Carr had 4 points each for the Trojans.
Darryl Taylor had 7 rebounds, Gunther and Nakyan Turner 5 assists each and Webb 4 assists for the Pointers who were 9-of-24 from the field.
On Tuesday, South Point host Fairland and Portsmouth visits Chesapeake.
