PROCTORVILLE — The South Point Lady Pointers dynamic duo were at it again.
Emilee Carey hit six 3-pointers and scored 26 points while Emilee Carey made a pair of 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead the Lady Pointers to a 60-54 win over the Gallipolis Blue Angels in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
The lead changed hands three times in the first quarter until Carey, Maddy Khounlavong and Diamond Crawley all hit 3-pointers for the Lady Pointers as they took a 17-7 lead.
South Point (10-5, 7-3) failed to convert on 16 straight possession and were 0-of-13 from the field during the stretch.
Petro — who had 7 points in the quarter — scored with 45 seconds left in the half to give Gallipolis a 19-17 lead. Whitt’s layup with 33 seconds on the clock was the Lady Pointers’ only basket in the quarter and tied the game at the half.
Carey hit a 3-pointer to give South Point a 30-29 lead with three minutes left in the third quarter. Petro scored at the 2:43 mark to give Gallipolis its last lead of the game at 31-30.
A trey by Carey put the Lady Pointers up for good at 33-31 with 2:23 on the clock.
trailing 43-37 after three quarters, Gallipolis cut the deficit to 2 points with 40 seconds left, but the Lady Pointers went 6-for-6 at the foul line — Whitt was 4-of-4 in the quarter — over the final minute to prevent a Gallipolis comeback.
South Point was 20-of-47 from the field including 10-of-21 from the 3-point line.
Whitt and Khounlavong had 6 rebounds and 3 assists each while Khoulavong had 9 assists.
Petro led Gallipolis (5-11, 1-9) with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Alex Barnes added 12 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
