Michael Wells
Michael Carroll Wells, 69, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Monday Jan. 6, 2020, at The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, West Virginia.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Huntington, West Virginia. Visitation will be held from 1–2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

John Holley
May 22, 1970–Jan. 3, 2020
John F. Holley, 49, of Coal Grove, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at home.
He was born May 22, 1970 in Lawrence County, the son of the late Ray Holley and Marlene Willis Holley.
He was a graduate of Coal Grove High School and worked at Woodland Cemetery.
He is survived by two children, Shelby Holley, of Chesapeake, and Brianna Richardson of South Point; three sisters, Marla DePriest, of Ashland, Kentucky, Jenny Kouns, of South Carolina and Amy Holley, of Coal Grove; and three brothers, Rock Holley, of South Carolina, Chuck Holley and Steve Holley, both of Coal Grove.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Brother Tim Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Friends may visit 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Maxine Oliver
April 6, 1929– Jan. 2, 2020
Maxine Mae (Rehme) Oliver, 90, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, at Wooded Glen Health Campus.
She was born on April 6, 1929, near Waterloo, in Lawrence County, the daughter of Henry and Anna Rehme. Maxine graduated from Washington Township High School at Blackfork in 1945 and then enrolled at Rio Grande College, Rio Grande, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1949.
Prior to graduating she married her late husband, John N. (Newt) Oliver,in 1948, where they began a life together at Rio Grande.
Maxine and Newt moved away from Rio Grande in 1949, relocating to Upper Sandusky and then to Wellsville, where they both taught school with Newt also coaching basketball.
In 1952, they returned to the Rio Grande community, where Newt accepted the position of head basketball coach at Rio Grande College.
Maxine continued in the teaching profession at Savageville School in Jackson County.
Several years later, Maxine and Newt moved to Springfield, where Maxine continued to teach school taking a position with the Springfield City Schools at Lagonda Elementary School and then Simon Kenton Elementary School.
She retired in 1987, after a total of 37 years as a beloved educator.
Maxine had been a member of the American Business Womens Association (ABWA) Springfield Charter Chapter since 1972. She was also a past member of the Clark County Retired Teachers Association.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary Grizzle, Virginia Miller, Laura Rehme; and grandson, John N. Oliver III.
She is survived by a brother, John Rehme (Margaret), of South Webster; son, John (Newt) N. Oliver Jr. (Mary), of Springfield; granddaughter, Kristen Ewing (Drew), of Liberty, Indiana, and their children, Henry, Charlie, and Lucy; and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to her nephew, Mark Miller, of Springfield, and a dear friend, Linda Moore, of Mascot, Tennessee, for their compassionate care and support given in her later days.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home, 838 East High St., Springfield, on Thursday from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. with funeral services immediately following. Burial to follow in Ferncliff Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Ayers will be presiding.
A special thanks from the family goes out to the staff at Wooded Glen Health Campus for the wonderful care and compassion they showed to Maxine during her stay there.

James Wilson
Nov. 1, 1978– Jan. 5, 2020
James Michael Wilson, 41, of Kitts Hill, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, at St. Mary’s Medical Center Ironton Campus.
James was born Nov. 1, 1978, in Ironton, a son to James E. Wilson and Mary Ann (Campbell) France. He is also survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Mindy (Curnutte) Wilson, whom he married April 16, 2005.
James was a graduate of Symmes Valley High School and was a laborer for Starcom International for 15 years. He enjoyed hunting, especially coon and deer, his great love was playing with his kids. He was of a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church in Wilgus.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Gladys and Manuel Wilson; and an uncle, Manuel “PeeWee” Wilson.
In addition to his parents and wife, James is survived by a daughter, Kara Wilson, of Kitts Hill; a son Kirk Wilson, of Kitts Hill; a sister, Mary Ellen (Ron) Cline, of Franklin Furnace; and two brothers, J.D. (Alisha) Miller, of Kitts Hill, and Kevin Miller, of Lexington, Kentucky.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Rev. Roger Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Hilgenberg Family Cemetery and visitation will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Geraldine Saunders
Dec. 28, 1930– Jan. 3, 2020
Geraldine Ann McCollister Saunders, of Ironton, passed away on Jan. 3, 2020.
She was born Dec. 28, 1930, the daughter of the late Harley E. and Kathryn Elizabeth Heib McCollister. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Bernard Saunders, to whom she was married in 1952.
Gerrie spent most of her life as a homemaker, but also worked as a bookkeeper for several car dealerships in Ironton and for Weber’s gift shop. She was a graduate of the Ironton High class of 1948, a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Green Blades Garden Club and a longtime member of both the IHS Band Boosters and the LOTA club.
She and her brother, Jack, roller skated competitively in the 40s.
She loved line dancing, and was a devoted fan of the IHS band, drama club and choir.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Jean Arthur and Mildred Heslop; a brother, Donald “Jack” McCollister; her twin brother, Gerald, and her son, Ralph Bennett Saunders.
Gerrie is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Ann (Jeff) Price, and Susan Kay (Dave) Melvin; one brother, Joseph McCollister; and grandchildren Emily (Andrew) Boehm, Aaron (Suzie) Hasenauer, Seth (Megan) Saunders, Mallory Hasenauer, and Haley Hasenauer. She also has five great-grandaughters, Addy and Bess Boehm, Jordyn Scott, and Sophia and Kimber Saunders.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with Pastor Steve Harvey Officiating. Interment will follow the service at Woodland Cemetery, 824 Lorain St., Ironton. Family will receive friends 6–8 p.m. Wednesday and the day of the funeral from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Dreama Long
Sept. 6, 1938– Jan. 3, 2020
Dreama Long, 81, of Ironton, went home to Jesus on Jan. 3, 2020. She was born Sept. 6, 1938, the daughter of the late Joseph and Alberta Wilds. She was also met in glory by her husband of 44 years, Paul Long.
Dreama was a 1956 graduate of Rock Hill High School and was a member of Royersville Missionary Baptist church. She dedicated her time to blessings others through her card ministry. Her cards had a way of showing up to those she loved at just the right time.
She leaves behind two daughters and a son-in-law, Penny Long and Kathy and Ted Bamer; grandchildren, Mike and Kelly Long, Andy and Amanda Long; five greatgrandchildren, Chloe, Charlee, Elijah, Samuel and Collin Long, whom she cherished; her sister, Joy Allen; two brothers, Dane (Sherry) Wilds and Joe (Carol) Wilds; several nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and her church families.
Visitation will be 6–8 p.m. Tuesday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, and a church service honoring her life will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Royersville Missionary Baptist Church.

Sandra Patton
Sandra Lee Patton, 66, of Proctorville, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2020 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Mark Patton.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, Kentucky. Visitation will be 1–2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ronald Hieneman
Ronald Jordan “R.J.” Hieneman, 32, of Ironton, died on Dec. 23, 2019, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the City Mission Church with a reception to follow the service. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
