PROCTORVILLE — The village council of Proctorville took time out of its regular monthly meeting on Dec. 18 to pay tribute to a retiring member of the body.
Lee Whitley’s term expired at the end of the month, drawing to a close his eight years on the council.
“He’s a real good person,” Mayor Rick Dunfee said. “He took a lot of interest in the village, he was never negative on anything and always had my respect.”
The month also saw Dunfee take the oath of office, for a third term, as well as two members of council, Gary Whitley and Bill Elliott.
Whitely and Eliott were appointed to seats in the last four years to fill vacancies. Both were elected to serve full terms in November.
Longtime council member Dale Burcham also won re-election in November and Dunfee said he will take the oath separately at a ceremony with family.
The mayor said the council will next meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 for an organizational session, at which point meeting times for the year will be set.
