A life of public service

There are many individuals out there who make a community work.
Often times, such people do so quietly, never seeking attention for their efforts.
Herb Brown was one of those.
The civic leader, who died last week at age 61, showed a constant love of his hometown and his contributions were many, whether working on he Ironton-Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade, with the Lions Club, the Lawrence County Historic Museum and others, he could often be seen at events, always friendly and helpful.
As his colleagues and friends have all said in recent days, he could always be counted on to help on a project, working hard and never seeking anything in return.
We extend our condolences to his family and would like to take thank other like him who work to better Lawrence County.
And we can think of no better way to honor his life’s work than for others to take up civic involvement.
There are many groups around Ironton and the county, serving the public and always in need of volunteers.
We encourage everyone to consider dropping by their events and getting involved.
