Herbert Brown

March 3, 1958 — Dec. 24, 2019

Herbert “Herbie” Ralph Brown, 61, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019, at Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky.

Herbie was born March 3, 1958 in Raceland, Kentucky; a son to the late Maxwell “Mac” Brown and June M. (Endicott) Brown. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Laura Jean Markel Brown, whom he married June 3, 2005.

Herbie was a 1976 graduate of Raceland High School and received his Associate Degree from Ashland Community College. He was an electrical engineer for Addcar Highwall Mining System for over 25 years.

Herb was the 2017 Ironton Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshall and a longtime member of the Ironton-Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade Committee.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Lions Club, where he was given the esteemed honor of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He was the treasurer for Lawrence County Historic Museum and Ironton Area Youth Soccer Association. He was the president of the Ashland/Ironton Habitat for Humanity (Fuller House) and was a former president of Ironton High School Band Boosters and active in Wreaths Across America.

He was an avid U.K. fan and loved his family unconditionally. He enjoyed spending time with all of them. Herbie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Randy, Kendall and David Brown.

In addition to loving wife, he is survived by four daughters, Meghan Rose (Zaylin) Taylor Brown Willis, Robin (Joshua) Taylor Kerns, Casie Taylor, all of Ironton, and Jennie Lee Tierney, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; son, James (Shylo) Brown of Evington, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; two fur grand babies, Lilly and Peyton and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 501 Chestnut St., Ironton, with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery and visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton. Pallbearers will be David Markel, Andy Markel, Brent Pyles, Cody Bryant, Tyler Markel, Ray Jones, II, James Inglis, Pete Furnari and James Brown.

Max Myers

March 3, 1953 — Dec. 25, 2019

Max David Myers, 66, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 25, 2019.

Max was born at Ironton General Hospital on March 3, 1953, to the late Merle and Jerre Myers.

He was a 1971 graduate of Raceland High School.
Max was a carpenter by trade, an avid fisherman and UK fan. He loved camping and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Silas McFann, and his first wife, Jeanine Cumbo Myers.

Max is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda Delawder Myers. He is also survived by his children, Michele Myers, Stacy (Aaron) McFann and Brandon (Ashlee) Myers, of Ironton; as well as his grandchildren, Max and Maycen McKenzie, Grayson and Samuel McFann, and Casen and Haelyn Myers. He is also survived by his sister, Jenny Craft of Worthington, Kentucky.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillip’s Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Ronald Litchfield

Ronald Lee Litchfield, 81, of South Point, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019.  He is survived by his significant other, Joan Bragg;

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Roger Wireman officiating.  Burial will follow at White Cottage Cemetery, South Point.  Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Karen Coburn

Karen E. Moore Coburn, 77, of Ironton, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019 at Harbor Health Care in Ironton.

She is survived by two children, Keith Coburn and Terri Coburn Litteral; two grandsons, Brad Litteral and Bryson Parks; and two great granddaughters, Charlie Parks and Adrian Parks.

  Karen Smith

July 20, 1942 — Dec. 24, 2019

Karen Smith, 77, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019 at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center.

She was born July 20, 1942 in Ironton, a daughter of the late William Albert Knipp and Evelyn Jewell Addis Knipp.  Karen was a member of the Decatur Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from the former Lawrence County General Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Dewey “Don” Smith; a sister, Sandi Lewis, of Ironton; two brothers, Dale (Carolyn) Knipp, of Kitts Hill, and Larry (Agnes) Knipp, of Waterloo; four nieces, Angie (Carl) Clark, Kimberly (Clay) Settle, Patricia Lewis and Amanda (Matt) Capper; an honorary niece, Christie (Matt) Ruthers; five nephews, Larry Dale (Traci) Knipp, Brian (Lisa) Knipp, Darren Lewis, Kenny (Stacy) Knipp and Timothy (Mindy) Knipp; and a very dear friend, Missy (Don) Banks.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Tim Knipp and Bro. Clay Settle officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
