LLOYD, Ky. — The South Point Pointers have their seasons mixed up.
Christmas is the season for giving, not basketball season. However, the Pointers gave up 22 turnovers in an 81-66 loss to the Greenup County Musketeers on Monday.
“You can’t win turning the ball over that much,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.
“We gave up two spurts at the end of the first quarter and the end of the second, each with a minute or so to go. Those were pivotal.”
The Pointers (1-2) shot well as they hit 25-of-43 shots including 7-of-14 form the 3-point line, but the turnovers proved too much to overcome.
Austin Webb led the Pointers with 23 points and Chance Gunther had 14. Jake Adams had 6 rebounds.
Rodrell Dryden and Brady Nelson scored 20 points each and Zander Carter added 11 for Greenup (4-1).
Nelson had 8 points as Greenup took a 20-18 first quarter lead.
Webb scored 6 and Gunther hit a 3-pointer and two foul shots for the Pointers.
The Musketeers pulled away to a 43-34 halftime lead as Dryden scored 14 points in the second quarter. Webb had 8 points and Gunther 5 as each player hit a trifecta.
Six different players scored in the third quarter as Greenup extended its lead to 63-47. Webb had another 3-pointer and scored 7 points.
Zander Carter and Ashton Lacy scored 6 points each in the fourth quarter for Greenup while Adams had all 6 of his points and Zander Dornan hit a 3-pointer for South Point.
The Pointers host Gallipolis on Tuesday.
