PORTSMOUTH — The Minford Falcons had their offense in high gear and wouldn’t let up off the gas pedal.
The Faclons hit 14 3-point goals and had four players in double figures as they beat the Coal Grove Hornets 76-58 on Thursday in the Wendy’s Classic.
Elijah Vogelsong-Lewis led the Falcons with 18 points including five 3-pointers. Trenton Zimmerman scored 14 on four 3-pointers while Nathan McCormick scored 13 and Adam Crank 11.
Cory Borders scored a game-high 20 points, Evan Gannon had 14 and Peyton Smith and Malachi Wheeler 10 points each as Coal Grove also had four players in double digits.
Minford (3-2) got hot from the start by outscoring Coal Grove 22-12 in the first quarter as Voglesong hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points, Zimmerman had two more 3-pointers and Matthew Risner added 5 points.
Borders and Gannon scored 5 each in the first quarter.
Coal Grove (0-3) came to life in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 33-31 at the half as Borders hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points while Gannon was 3-of-4 at the line and also scored 7 points.
The Falcons got hot again in the third quarter as they pulled away to a 53-43 lead. Vogelsong made three 3-pointers and scored 10 points to lead the surge.
Peyton Smith scored 6 points and Borders hit a trifecta and scored 5 points for 11 of Coal Grove’s 12 total points.
The Falcons continued the offensive onslaught as Adam Crank came off the bench to score 11 points including three triples and Andy Crank also hit a 3-pointer.
Malachi Wheeler had 5 points including 3-of-4 at the line and Borders drained another triple in the fourth quarter.
