PORTSMOUTH — The Chesapeake Panthers ran well, but Talyn Parker just outran everyone.
Parker carried 17 times for 288 yards and three touchdowns as the Portsmouth Trojans beat the Panthers 34-20 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Portsmouth (6-1, 3-1) had 427 total yards with 361 coming on the ground. Quarterback Drew Roe was 7-of-10 passing for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
Chesapeake (3-4, 1-3) racked up 374 total yards with 351 coming on the ground. Kamren Harless rushed 26 times for 166 yards and a score while Will Todd had 95 yards on 17 carries and a TD.
The Panthers scored first when Todd went 3 yards with 6:51 left in the first quarter. Randy Wilson kicked the conversion.
The Trojans tied the game on the ensuing play after the kickoff as Parker bolted 60 yards for the score. Joel Bowling added the conversion.
Portsmouth took a 14-7 lead on a 19-yard pass from Roe to Bryce Wallace with 1:50 left in the first quarter.
Chesapeake tied the game at the 9:31 mark of the second quarter on a 28-yard scamper by Harless and Wilson booted the extra point.
The Trojans took over in the second half with three straight touchdowns.
Roe and Eric Purdy clicked on a 7-yard toss with 7:45 left in the third quarter and it was 21-14.
With 3:50 on the clock. Parker was at it again as he got loose on a 59-yard scoring run and the lead was 27-14.
The Trojans sealed the win on a 22-yard touchdown run by Parker with 5:39 to play.
Chesapeake punched in a touchdown with 1:52 left on a 17-yard run by Donald Richendollar.
