RACELAND, Ky. — If coach Missy Fields lists the name K. Moore on her lineup card, it could mean Keegan or it could mean strikeout.
The two were interchangeable on Wednesday as Moore struck out 18 batters of the 21 outs and the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Raceland Lady Rams 6-1.
Moore not only struck out 18 but allowed just two singles and the only run was unearned.
“Keegan Moore gave a stellar performance on the mound. She just kept mowing them down,” said Fields. “When you allow just two hits and have 18 strikeouts on a ranked Kentucky team, you are a force to be reckoned with.”
Ironton (3-0) had 12 hits as Mary Beth Burton went 3-4 with a home run and two runs batted in.
Taiya Hamlet was 2-4 and two RBi, Demi “The Singing Catcher” Sands was 2-4 with an RBi and Riley Schreck went 2-3 for the Lady Tigers.
“Our bats were hot tonight. The girls were more patient at the plated. Burton’s home run went over the scoreboard in center field and landed on Route 23,” said Fields. ‘It was an exciting win. I’m proud of our team effort.”
Ironton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Burton, Peighton Rowe and Hamlet all singled for two runs. Moore had a hit and Sands reached on an error as a run scored.
Raceland (4-2) got its only run in the first inning.
Raegan West was safe on an error, Kierston Smith got a one-out single, and Emily Johnson and Cameryn Davidson walked to force in the run.
Ironton got the run back in the third when Hamlet reached on an error and scored on Sands’ base hit.
The final two runs scored in the sixth when Kylee Richendollar singled and Burton belted her long two-run homer.
