The Green Bobcats used some strong foul shooting to beat the Symmes Valley Vikings 64-57 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Friday.
The Bobcats converted 30-of-42 free throws while the Vikings made only 4-of-13 attempts.
The Vikings had three players foul out and two more finished with four fouls.
Green (13-8, 7-6) was led by Tanner Kimbler and Gage Sampson with 23 points each. Kimbler was 14-of-18 at the line and Sampson 9-of-11.
Tayte Carver added 15 points for the Bobcats who had only four players score.
Symmes Valley (7-14, 6-7) also had three players in double figures.
Jack Leith scored 18 points, Drew Scherer had 15 and Luke Leith got 14 points.
Green led 14-10 after the first quarter as Sampson had eight points and Kimbler four. Green was 8-of-9 at the line.
Luke Leith got six points for the Vikings.
The Bobcats stretched the lead to 30-23 at the half as Carver hit a 3-pointer and scored six points while Kimbler and Sampson had five each.
Jack Leith scored nine of the Vikings’ 13 points in the quarter.
Each team scored 13 points in the third quarter and it was 43-36.
Scherer hit a pair of treys and had eight points for the Vikings while Sampson had six points — he was 4-of-5 at the line — and Carver four.
The teams matched points again in the fourth quarter with each scoring 21.
Scherer hit another triple andhad five points while Josh Ferguson and both Jack and Luke Leith scored four each.
But Green sank 13-of-20 free throw attempts as Kimbler went 9-for-10 and Zach Huffman 3-of-4. Kimbler scored 11 points in the quarter.
In the Division IV sectional tournament, Symmes Valley plays Federal Hocking at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday at Meigs High School while Green plays at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. against the winner of Whiteoak and Portsmouth Notre Dame.
