The spotlight was on Isaac Whaley and he turned up the wattage.
Whaley celebrated being the lone senior on the St. Joseph team by scoring a career-high 34 points including a personal-best five 3-pointers as the Flyers beat the Ohio Valley Christian Defenders 88-51 on Friday.
Zach Roach had 18 points and J.C. Damron 12 points as eight different players scored for the Flyers (14-6).
“Great way for Isaac Whaley to go out on senior night with career high,” said Flyers’ coach Chris Barnes.
“Zach had a good game and J.C. did his usual. Everyone contributed. It was a good way to end the home season.”
Mack Oliver had 16 points, Andrew Dubs scored 14 and Justin Beaver 11 to lead OVC.
The Flyers bolted out of the starting gate by outscoring OVC 26-10.
Both Whaley and Roach hit 3-pointers and scored seven points each. Jimmy Mahlmeister, Max Weber and Damron had four points each.
Oliver scored six for the Defenders.
Whaley had six points with Roach and Damron four each to offset eight points by Oliver and a 3-pointer by Bryce Gruber and it was 43-25 at the break.
Whaley turned it up a notch in the third quarter with a trifecta among his 10 points and the Flyers built a 63-37 cushion. Beaver had five points for OVC.
The fourth quarter began with Whaley hitting three more 3-poiners and scoring 11 points. Roach added a trey while Will Whaley came off the bench to hit two more triples.
Dubs scored eight of his points and Beaver four more in the quarter.
The Flyers visit Rock Hill on Tuesday.
