WILLOW WOOD — Welcome to the second half.
After struggling offensively in the first half, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings came to life in the second half as they rallied from 3-point deficit to beat the Pt. Pleasant Big Blacks 46-28 on Saturday.
Rachael Hayes had 11 points and three steals for the Lady Vikings (11-7). Taylor Sells had a strong all-around game with eight points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Kylie Deer added eight points and four assists.
“Sells had a great game. Hayes and Deer played their best defensive games of the year,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter.
Allison Henderson score 15 points for Point Pleasant (2-15).
Pt. Pleasant led 10-9 after the first quarter as Henderson hit a 3-pointer and scored five points and Nancy Vettese added three points.
Hayes also hit a 3-pointer and scored five points for the Lady Vikings.
Henderson hit another triple and the lead was 16-13 at the half. Symmes Valley only managed baskets by Jenna Malone and Emily Johnson.
The third quarter turned the game as the Lady Vikings outscored Pt. Pleasant 17-7 to take a 30-21 lead.
Deer knocked down a pair of trifectas, Payton Hunter hit a3-point and Sells scored four points.
The offense kept rolling in the third quarter as did the defense and the Lady Vikings continued to pull away.
Seven different players scored in the quarter with Hunter hitting another 3-pointers and the Lady Vikings were 5-of-7 from the foul line.
Symmes Valley visits St. Joseph on Monday.
