Lady Panthers roll to 49-30 win

CHESAPEAKE— By winning the battle of the boards, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers were able to win Monday’s Ohio Valley Conference game against the Rock Hill Redwomen, 49-30.
“We played pretty well defensively and we kept them off the boards. That’s was the difference,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.
Maddie Ward led Chesapeake (7-9, 4-4) with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Blake Anderson had 11 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Karli Davis added nine points, six rebounds and three assists for the Lady Panthers and Taylor Hicks came up with five steals.
Rock Hill (2-12, 0-8) was led by Rileigh Morris with seven points.
Anderson, Corrine Ferguson, Ward and Davis all hit 3-pointers in the first quarter as Chesapeake jumped out to a 21-4 lead.
Anderson and Ward scored four points each in the second quarter and the lead was 33-17 at the half.
Morris scored six points, Makayla Scott was 3-for-4 and Kenzie Hanshaw 2-for-2 at the line in the second quarter for Rock Hill.
Ward scored five points including 3-of-4 at the line and Kandace Pauley hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter to make it 44-26. Savannah Cade had four points in the quarter for Rock Hill.
Pauley and Anderson had baskets as Chesapeake outscored the Redwomen 5-4 in the four quarter. Aleigha Matney was 4-of-6 at the line to account for Rock Hill’s scoring in the quarter.
Rock Hill hosts St. Joseph on Wednesday and Ironton on Thursday. Chesapeake visits Portsmouth on Thursday.
