PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons decided to play double or nothing, basketball style.
The Dragons had four players in double figures as they beat St. Joseph Regional Prep by double digits, 65-41 on Saturday in the annual Big E Classic.
Matt Mondlak scored 16 points, Ian Chinn 15, Clayton Thomas 14 and Aiden Porter 13 as the Dragons improved to 2-1.
The Dragons shot well once again as they connected on 22-of-37 shots for 59.5 percent and were 12-of-16 from the foul line for 75 percent. They made 9-of-19 shots from behind the arc.
Mondlak had five points as he and Austin Gartin each hit 3-pointers in the first quarter while Ian Chinn and Thomas each scored four points as Fairland took an 18-14 lead.
Porter hit a 3-pointer and scored seven points while Thomas knocked down two more triples in the second quarter and the Dragons extended their lead to 34-27 at the half.
The third quarter proved to be pivotal as the Dragons held Prep to just six points while opening up a 49-33 lead.
Mondlak had a hot hand with three trifectas and Porter added four more points in the quarter.
Prep kept putting the Dragons on the foul line and Chinn — who had eight points in the fourth quarter — made 6-of-6 free throw attempts while Thomas went 4-for-6. Fairland outscored Prep 16-8 in the quarter.
Miaki Johnson had 13 points to lead St. Joseph Prep.
Fairland hosts Ironton on Tuesday.
