KITTS HILL — The South Hills Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will host its fourth annual Women in the Outdoors event Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29 at the K-Hill Indoor Gun Range.
The event is for women of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, and knowledgeable instructors will teach the activities, including arts and crafts, fishing 101, archery, skeet shooting, rifle shooting, canoeing, nature hikes, handgun shooting, outdoor cooking, turkey hunting 101, vehicle maintenance, self defense, deer and squirrel hunts, and more.
One change to this year’s event is a new event coordinator, Amanda Sammons, of Kitts Hill, who has already added new classes, including nature photography, Young Living Essential Oils and pheasant hunt provided by Flush’em High Pheasant Hunts.
“We have some women attend who haven’t hunted or fished before, and many come back to this event every year to have fun and meet new friends. Some mothers, daughters, sisters and aunts who have made it a family tradition have already signed up for this year’s event,” Sammons said. “But some women have never had the opportunity to spend the day in the woods or on the water. Seeing someone discover the outdoors for the first time, or re-discover something they’ve tried as a kid is why we’ve hosted this event for the past three years.”
To sign up for the Women in the Outdoors event, visit www.southhillslongbeards.org and click on the WITO tab at the top of the page, where the sign up form is located. The chapter is asking those interested in signing up by Wednesday, Sept. 19 in order to receive an event T-shirt. The event is open to ages 14 and up, and those ages 14-17 must take the classes with a parent of guardian.
