OAK HILL — The Oak Hill Oaks used a strong running game to down the Chesapeake Panthers 40-12 in Friday’s season opener.
The Oaks ran 55 times for 313 yards as Bayley Clutters carried 18 times for 136 yards and a score while Triston Diltz ran 10 times for 89 yards and three scores.
Chesapeake had only 149 total yards with 114 coming on the ground. Quarterback Austin Browning ran 11 times for 56 yards and a touchdown and Kamren Harless four times for 55 yards and a score.
Browning got sandwiched between two Oak Hill players at the goal line just as he released a pass and was knocked out of the game halfway through in the third quarter.
The Oaks went up 12-0 at the half on a 38-yard run by Diltz and a 17-yard scoring run by Bradey Chandler.
Browning’s 50-yard TD run made it 12-6 to start the third quarter, but the Oaks answered with a 1-yard run by Colin Hughes and an 8-yard run by Diltz.
Harless darted 42 yards to begin the fourth quarter and make it 26-12, but he Oaks got scoring runs by Diltz and Clutters to seal the outcome.
