MAUMEE — Pitching and defense are the key elements at any level of baseball.
That was the case at the Ohio Senior League state tournament on Friday as the Rock Hill All-Stars beat host Maumee 1-0 behind the pitching of Dakota Dodds and Nick Blankenship along with excellent fielding.
Dodds went six innings and allowed one hit. He struck out eight and walked three in getting the win. Blankenship gave up a hit as he pitched the seventh inning for the save.
Rock Hill’s defense had just one error.
Rock Hill got the game’s only run in the fourth inning as battery mates Dodds and catcher Hayden Harper combined for the run.
Dodds singled and came around to score on a double by Harper.
Harper was 2-3 while Dodds and Blankenship were 1-3 as Rock Hill got four hits.
Rock Hill will play the winner of East Holmes and Mason at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
