Earl Smith Sr.

Jan. 7, 1926 — June 27, 2018

Earl Dustin Smith Sr., 92, of Coal Grove, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. The South Point native was born Jan. 7, 1926, a son of the late Samuel David and Anna Louise Gruber Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Deloris S. Smith, who also passed away June 27, 2018.
Mr. Smith attended South Point High School and was a corporal with the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1944 through 1946. He was a repairman for the Ironton Coke Plant for 14 years, retiring in 1982, and was also a member of VFW Post 8850. He was a member of the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Deering.
He is survived by a daughter, Gloria Harper, of Coal Grove; daughter, Susie Friend, of South Point; son, Earl Dusty Smith, of Coal Grove; daughter, Teri Forest, of Coal Grove; son, Anthony (Joni) Smith, of Deering; son, Victor Smith, of Coal Grove; sister, Kay Francis Moore, of South Point; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; and 12 sisters.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tracy-Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Todd Warner officiating. Deloris Smith

June 18, 1941 — June 27, 2018

Deloris S. Smith, 77, of Coal Grove, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. The Flatgap, Kentucky native was born June 18, 1941, a daughter of the late Elza and Sophie Kirk Salyer. She was survived by her husband, Earl Dustin Smith Sr., who passed away shortly thereafter on that same day.
Mrs. Smith was a 1958 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and attended Century College for two years. She was a homemaker, a member of Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the VFW Post 8850 Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria Harper, of Coal Grove; daughter, Susie Friend, of South Point; son, Earl Dusty Smith, of Coal Grove; daughter, Teri Forest, of Coal Grove; son, Anthony (Joni) Smith, of Deering; son, Victor Smith, of Coal Grove; brother, Hager (Betty) Salyers, of Springfield; brother, Charles (Mary Grace) Salyers, of Eastman, Georgia; sister, Patricia (Larry) Zumbro, of McConnelsville; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Ann Harless; son, Timothy Keaton Smith; five sisters; and one brother.

Alys Spears

Alys P. Spears, beloved wife of the late George Newton Spears M.D.; devoted mother of Alys (Dick) Herrick, George R. (Susan) Spears, James N. (Kathy) Spears, and Janet (Randy) Allen; loving grandmother of Richard (Sandy) Herrick, George S. (Amy) Spears, Andrew Herrick (MegAnne), Thomas G. (Anne) Spears, Rebecca Allen (Christopher), Bryan (Jessica) Allen, and Timothy (Virginia) Herrick. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Elise Allen.
Alys passed into God’s arms Thursday, June 28, 2018. She was a resident of Hill View Retirement Center, Portsmouth, and formerly lived in Ironton.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m.-noon Monday at Daehler Funeral Home, Portsmouth. If desired, sympathy may be expressed by a memorial contribution to Hill View Retirement Center.
