Document shred, E-waste Day set for this weekend

The Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District is hosting a document shred and E-waste day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at Valley Wholesale Foods in Portsmouth and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Ironton Hills Plaza.
The event provides an opportunity for residents to shred important papers, envelopes and confidential documents, and properly dispose of electronics.
Documents will be destroyed on site, and E-waste items that will be accepted include computers, copiers, cell phones, keyboards, laptops, scanners, fax machines and monitors. Televisions will not be accepted as part of the initiative.
Last year in Scioto County, 116 total vehicles came through in Scioto County, and 5,000 lbs. of documents were shredded and 6,000 lbs. of E-waste was collected. Last year in Lawrence County, 70 total vehicles came though, and 4,440 lbs. of documents were shredded and 3,000 lbs. of E-waste was collected.
Valley Wholesale Foods is located on Market Street in Portsmouth, and Ironton Hills Plaza is located at the intersection of U.S. 52 and State Route 93 in Ironton.
This weekend’s events are available to residents in either county.
