FRANKLIN FURNACE — The rookies played like veterans.
Freshman Levi Singleton won his pitching debut and freshman catcher Mason Barber went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in as the Green Bobcats beat the South Webster Jeeps 11-1 in six innings on Tuesday.
Singleton went 4.2 innings for the win. He struck out five, walked four, gave up just three hits and one earned run.
“It was Levi Singleton’s first game on the mound and he gave us a really good effort. And Mason Barber went 4-for-4 at the plate. That’s a nice effort out of our two freshmen,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
The Bobcats had their best offensive night of the young season with 18 hits including five doubles.
“We hit well up and down the lineup. Hayden Whittis had a big game for us as well,” said McDavid.
Whittis was 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Tanner Kimber was 3-4 with a double and Eli Webb was 2-4.
Green (5-1) snapped a scoreless tie with four runs in the third.
Rylee Maynard singled, Kimber and Carver walked and Bryce Ponn hit a sacrifice fly. A throwing error on the play scored Kimbler and it was 2-0.
With two outs, Whittis doubled for a run and Barber followed with an RBI single.
Each team got a run in the fourth.
After the Jeeps scored, Green answered as Kimbler singled and scored when Singleton reached on an error.
The Bobcats ended the game with six runs in the sixth.
Kimbler and Carver doubled for the first run. Ponn beat out an infield hit and Singleton singled home Carver.
Whittis and Barber singled in runs and Caden Brammer hit a sacrifice fly.
Webb singled and Maynard followed with an RBI single. Kimbler came up for the second time in the inning and singled to drive in the final run.
Green visits Western on Wednesday.
