One week left for free AARP tax prep

- Kathy Moore, tax aide, prepares taxes Thursday afternoon. For the next week, people can have their taxes done by the AARP Foundation free of charge on Tuesday and Thursday, at the Ohio Means Jobs building in downtown Ironton and Friday at the library in South Point.
Tax deadline is April 17
As this year’s tax season is winding down, free tax preparation through AARP is still available for those who haven’t yet filed.
The group of AARP volunteers has provided the service in Lawrence County for those with low to moderate income for nearly two decades, which includes preparation for city, state and federal taxes.
In order to prepare taxes, taxpayers must bring identification documents, such as a Social Security Card, a driver’s license, all wage statements, and any income records, such as retirement, stock sales and dividend/interest statements.

In addition, those wishing to receive their refund via direct deposit must bring their banking information, including account number and routing number of the bank.
Although the tax deadline is Tuesday, April 17, the free AARP service is only going on for another week.
The service is at the South Point branch of the Briggs Lawrence County Library, located at 317 Solida Road, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today and next Friday, and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Ohio Means Jobs building, located at 120 N. Third St. in Ironton.
