GALLIPOLIS — The Ironton Fighting Tigers got doubled up in doubles play.
After taking two of the three singles matches, Ironton lost both doubles matches as the Fighting Tigers dropped their season opener in tennis 3-2 to the Gallipolis Blue Devils on Friday.
Pierce Wilcoxon of Gallipolis beat Ironton’s Adian White in the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-1.
Ironton bounced back and won the next two matches as No. 2 man Jaxson Pleasant downed Amane Sawamoto 6-1, 6-4 and then Ironton’s No. 3 player Ali White swept Gallipolis’ Brittany Masters by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.
However, Ironton couldn’t squeeze out a win in either doubles match.
Ironton’s No. 1 team of Sierra Vallance and Elena Wilson fell 4-6, 1-6 to Katie Carpenter and Kirsten Hesson of Gallipolis.
In the No. 2 doubles match, Ironton’s duo of Todd Davidson and Ethan Bennett lost to Gallipolis’ Thomas Hamilton and Nick Mayes 5-7, 2-6.
Ironton hosts Portsmouth Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Monday and visits Portsmouth at 4:30 on Tuesday.
