Elmore, Burks named to NABC All-District team

KANSAS CITY — Awards keep on piling up for the Marshall Thundering Herd men’s basketball team, as juniors Jon Elmore and C.J. Burks were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 11 teams, the organization announced Tuesday.
Elmore, who was named to the NABC’s first team for the second consecutive year, is coming off a week where he received Conference USA Tournament MVP and all-tournament honors. During the tournament, Elmore averaged 22.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists. In the C-USA finals, Elmore made seven three-pointers, which was a tournament record. The junior was also named to the league’s first team.
Burks, who was named to the league’s second team, is earning his first NABC honor. This season, Burks is averaging 20.5 points, 3.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds. Burks is scoring his 20.5 points from shooting 83-of-227 (36.6 percent) from three-pointers and making 217-of-262 (89.3 percent) of his free throws. As it stands, Burks’ free throw percentage is third all-time in program history for a single season.
Up next, Marshall will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 31 years when it takes on the Wichita State Shockers on Friday, March, 16 at 1:30 p.m. in San Diego.
