WILLOW WOOD — Rachael Hayes decided to make her presence felt.
Hayes turned in a big game for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings as they beat the Green Lady Bobcats 46-26 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Monday.
Hayes had her best all-around effort of the season with 15 points, five assists and eight steals.
“We need to get some contribution out of our other players. Shepherd and Crabtree are our main two, but you need to have some balance to keep teams from focusing on just those two,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter.
Seniors Jensyn Shepherd and Kaitlyn Crabtree still had solid performances.
Shepherd had 15 points and six rebounds while Crabtree finished with nine points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Leslie Gallion and Megan Johnson scored eight points each to lead the Lady Bobcats.
Shepherd had four points in the first quarter as Symmes Valley took an 8-6 lead. Johnson hit a 3-pointer for Green.
The Lady Vikings took control in the second quarter by outscoring Green 18-5 and it was 26-11 at the half. Shepherd and Hayes scored eight points each in the quarter.
Crabtree score six points as the Lady Vikings extended their lead to 36-16 after three quarters.
Hayes had four points in the fourth quarter to offset five points by Gallion that included a 3-pointer.
Symmes Valley (4-3, 3-3) shot 20-of-54 from the field for 37 percent.
The Lady Vikings hosts Beaver Eastern on Thursday.
