Anna Roach

March 12, 1926 — Dec. 10, 2017

Anna Lee Roach, 91, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at Heartland of Jackson. The Willow Wood native was born March 12, 1926, the daughter of the late Virgil and Virgie (Osborne) McCarty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Lee Roach, whom she married April 27, 1944.
Anna was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she served as secretary and Sunday school teacher for many years. A longtime member of the Gallipolis French Art Colony, Anna was an accomplished artist and published poet. After serving as head cook at Symmes Valley High School for 23 years, and at the age of 57, she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Education at Ohio University and taught kindergarten at Waterloo Elementary School.
She was a founding advisor for the Starlite 4-H Club and served in that capacity for 35 years.
Anna was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Holder and Audrey Corn; and by six brothers, Glenn McCarty, Burnice McCarty, Bill McCarty, Edward McCarty, Kenneth McCarty and Jim McCarty.
She is survived by one sister, Carol (Bob) Wood; and her children, Karen LaRoe (Lin) Williams, Rena Snouffer, and Keith Roach; grandchildren include, Joseph West V, Lee Ann West, Stephen LaRoe, Sarah Snouffer, Marianne Snouffer, Robert Snouffer III, Chris (Carol) Roach, Elijah (Gretchen) Roach and Victor Roach; and great-grandchildren include, Amanda West, Joseph West VI, Collin Roach, Maycin Roach, Abigail Roach and Ryan Snouffer.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Sunday at Trinity Baptist Church, Wilgus. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. followed by burial at Aid Cemetery. Gary McGuire

Oct. 26, 1947 — Dec. 11, 2017

Gary R. McGuire, 70, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 26, 1947, the son of the late Everett and Virginia Leisure McGuire. He is survived by his wife, Frances Wilson McGuire, whom he married on Feb. 5, 1966.
Gary was a graduate of Symmes Valley High School and a former operator for Braskem (formally Novamont), where he worked for 39 years and retired in 2012. He was a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist and enjoyed drag racing, hunting, fishing, carpentry, and mechanical work.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Les McGuire; and a sister, Juanita Kelley McCoy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mary (Jim) Turner, of Ironton; a son, Gary “Bub” (Megan) McGuire, of Ironton; grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) McGuire, Nicholas (Morgan) McGuire and Erin McGuire; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Billy Markins officiating. Burial will follow in Wilgus Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Sally Jo Ross

June 19, 1947 — Dec. 11, 2017

Sally Jo Ross, 70, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. The Ironton native was born June 19, 1947, a daughter of the late Robert H. and Doris Turner Kennedy.
Sally was a graduate of Ironton High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Sammy Ross.
She is survived by two daughters, Tyina (Billy) Walker, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Jennifer Collins, of Ironton; three sisters, Sue Robinson, Patricia Dyke and Yvonne Brooks, all of Ironton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Christina Ritchie

Christina Marie Ritchie, 45, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Harrison Dale Ritchie Jr. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.
