Norma Frecka

Sept. 28, 1928 — Nov. 24, 2017

Mrs. Norma “Jean” (Malone) Frecka, 89, of Ironton, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at Community Hospice in Ashland, Kentucky. The Ironton native was born Sept. 28, 1928, a daughter to the late Archie and Mildred (Salyers) Malone.
Jean was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Frecka, who passed away in 1986.
Mrs. Frecka was a 1947 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. Jean loved spending time with and taking care of her family. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene Church and attended Lorain Street Church.
Norma is survived by three daughters, Sandy Newman, of Ironton, Debbie McCracken, of St. Albans, West Virginia, and Sherri (Keith) Jones, of Flatwoods, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Shawn Scragg, of Orlando, Florida, Randy (April) Jones, of Raceland, Kentucky, Kristen (Steve) Shockey, of Winfield, West Virginia, Allie (Jeremy) Gessel, of St. Albans, West Virginia, and Amber (Jameson) McKnight, of Ironton; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eloise Compton, of Florence, South Carolina, and Nancy Adams, of Gainesville, Florida; two sisters-in-law; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Norma was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Carl “Archie” Malone; a sister, Helen Miller; and a son-in-law, Robert McCracken.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor John Paul Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Visitation will be from 11 a.n. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Iris Cordle

May 3, 1931 — Nov. 25, 2017

Iris Anne Bailey Cordle, 86, of Waterloo, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at Crystal Care in Coal Grove. Mrs. Cordle was born May 3, 1931, in Ironton, the daughter of the late Millard Curtis and Mary Caroline Gilley Bailey.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cordle was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Cordle; and her brother, Lloyd C. “Sonny” Bailey.
Mrs. Cordle was a technician for Rollison Aluminum and enjoyed writing articles for various newspapers. She loved Christmas time and never gave fewer than a hundred gifts per year. She was of the Pentecostal faith.
Mrs. Cordle is survived by her four sons, Phillip (Faye) Cordle, of Waterloo, David (Julie) Cordle, of Greenup, Kentucky, Tony (Beverly) Cordle, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Glen “Bud” (Irene) Bailey, of Beech Island, South Carolina; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 36 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be noon Tuesday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Kentucky, with the Rev. Lloyd L. Bailey and the Rev. Jason A. Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery NE in Greenup, Kentucky.

William Freeman

William Mack Freeman, 71, of Willow Wood, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at home. He is survived by his wife, Kelly Freeman. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Old German Cemetery, Linville. There will be no visitation. Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is in charge of arrangements.

 

Larry Akers

Jan. 8, 1947 — Nov. 25, 2017

Larry James Akers, 70, of Ironton, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Ironton. He was born Jan. 8, 1947, in Greenup, Kebtucky, a son of the late James Akers and Marie Nichols Akers.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Akers and Paul Akers; a brother-in-law, Bob Bledsoe; and a sister-in- law, Wanda Akers.
Larry fought a long battle with COPD. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Esta A. Coleman Akers; a son, James (Courtney) Akers, of Ironton; two grandchildren, Emileigh Akers and Landen Akers; four sisters, Patricia Bledsoe, of Greenup, Kentucky, Barbara (Beryl) Satterly of Grayson, Kentucky, Karen (Rickey) James, of Pickens, South Carolina, and Janice (Paul) DeHart, of Westerville; and four brothers, Patrick (Judy) Akers, of Waverly, Daniel (Kim) Akers, of Kitts Hill, Alvin (Robin) Akers, of New Carlisle, and Gregory Akers, of Centerburg.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Burial will follow in Community Cemetery, Ironton.
