Portsmouth artist works in story-based paintings
An opening reception is set for 5 p.m. tonight at the gallery at Ohio University Southern for an exhibit featuring the works of Portsmouth artist Charlie Haskins.
The show includes a numbers of sculptural pieces from Haskins, 32, as well as several of his whimsical, story-based paintings.
Haskins began experimenting with storytelling in his paintings while he was still in college, he would use antique portraits as references for characters in stories he would attempt to tell on canvas. These early paintings formed the basis of a portfolio, which led to his acceptance in an art program at Eastern Tennessee State University.
Haskins’ output can be found at his Portsmouth studio and shop, Haskins House, located at 536 2nd Street.
