South Point, Burlington name school winners
The Lawrence County Spelling Bee is set for Wednesday, Dec. 6.
As is the case every year, this competition will take place in the Ironton Municipal Courtroom, Julie Walters, of the Lawrence Educational Service Center, who sponsors the bee, said.
Participants are comprised of the individual winners of school bees, between grades four through eight in all of Lawrence County’s districts.
South Point Elementary School hosted its bee on Wednesday, with Zoe Kinder taking first place, after successfully spelling “enlisted” and “disguise.”
Coming in second place was Jacob Buckley, who lost on the word “energetic,” and Parker Allen was third.
Burlington Elementary hosted its bee on Thursday, with fifth grader Lafayette “Lafe” Lycans winning and fourth grader Braydon Browning coming in second.
The county bee will be followed by the regional bee, in Athens.
Regardless of how they fare at the county bee, Kinder and Lycans will be eligible to participate in the regional bee, if they score high enough on an online test.
