Police said officers discovered retail theft ring in the village
SOUTH POINT — Seven people face multiple charges in connection with the investigation of what South Point police describe as a retail theft ring.
The department announced on Tuesday that Cody Perkey, Randy Perkey, Mike Rowe, Brianna Black, Kyle Davidson, Buddy Hardy and Jeff Collins have been charged following a seven-week investigation.
Police said during that time officers followed up on tips that led to the execution of a search warrant on Wilson Court a few weeks ago involving stolen property.
The department said that those who committed burglaries and thefts in the area often took the property to that location in exchange for narcotics and/or cash.
Information obtained during that search warrant led investigators to a retail theft ring that is believed to be operated by South Point residents, in which individuals would go shoplift items from JCPenney, Kohls, and other stores, sometimes even taking requests from acquaintances for certain items, police said.
The investigation also revealed three individuals were involved in an auto theft from a car lot in Ashland in which a male South Point resident was apprehended driving the stolen vehicle in the village, police said. That information is being forwarded to the Ashland Police Department.
The department said the investigation continued into the trafficking of narcotics at a home on Sharon Court. A narcotic search warrant was executed late evening on Saturday at 108 Sharon Court.
The following arrests/charges were a result of this investigation, thus far.
• Cody Perkey is charged with burglary, breaking and entering and theft, aggravated robbery and domestic violence.
