SOUTH POINT — A viewing event for the solar eclipse at South Point Elementary has been called off.

Administrative assistant Bill Christian said the event, which was set for Monday afternoon, is canceled and that, instead, the district’s board of education is sending students home early.

Christian said parents were notified of the change on Thursday.

Students at South Point High, South Point Middle and Burlington Elementary will also dismiss early due to the eclipse, according to the district’s board of education.
