Family members, coaches
among HOF presenters
CANTON, Ohio (AP) — Wives, a son and former coach Jimmy Johnson are among the presenters chosen to welcome the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s seven-member Class of 2017.
Presenters will include Morten Andersen’s son Sebastian and the wives of Jerry Jones and Kurt Warner for the induction ceremony on Aug. 6 in Canton.
The hall says Gene Jones and Brenda Warner will be just the third and fourth wives to serve in that role. Deanna Favre was the presenter for husband Brett last year and Mike Singletary’s wife, Kim, did it in 1998.
The other inductees and their presenters are Terrell Davis (agent and friend Neil Schwartz); Kenny Easley (high school coach Tommy Rhodes); Jason Taylor (his Miami Dolphins coach Johnson) and LaDainian Tomlinson (former San Diego Chargers teammate Lorenzo Neal).
Michigan St. dismisses
3 ex-football players
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Three former Michigan State football players accused of sexually assaulting a woman earlier this year have been dismissed from the university.
School spokesman Jason Cody said Thursday that Josh King, Donnie Corley Jr. and Demetric Vance were dismissed for violating the school’s relationship violence and sexual misconduct policy. The three were dismissed from the football team last month after criminal charges against them were made public .
King was charged with first- and third-degree criminal sexual conduct and with distributing an image of an unclothed person. Vance and Corley face third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges.
The university also conducted a Title IX investigation. Attorney Shannon Smith, who represents King, described that investigation as a rush to judgment.
Clippers get Gallinari
in three-team trade
DENVER (AP) — The Los Angeles Clippers acquired sharp-shooting forward Danilo Gallinari from Denver as part of a three-team trade that also involved Atlanta on Thursday.
In the swap, Los Angeles sent Jamal Crawford, Diamond Stone, cash considerations and a protected 2018 first-round pick to the Hawks. The Nuggets receive a 2019 second-round pick from Atlanta.
Gallinari joins a Clippers team that recently traded Chris Paul to Houston, but agreed to a five-year deal with Blake Griffin. They also have DeAndre Jordan in the frontcourt.
The 28-year-old Gallinari was originally selected by New York with the sixth overall pick in 2008. He wound up in Denver as part of the blockbuster deal in February 2011 that sent Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks.
A fan favorite, Gallinari averaged 16.2 points and made 535 3-pointers for the Nuggets. He missed the 2013-14 season as he recovered from a torn left ACL.
Tar Heels reinstate
Artis to football team
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina has reinstated suspended football player Allen Artis after misdemeanor charges against him for sexual battery and assault on a female student were dismissed.
Athletic director Bubba Cunningham announced the decision in a statement Thursday.
Artis was indefinitely suspended from the team last fall following his arrest tied to a February 2016 encounter. Artis had said the two had consensual sex and denied wrongdoing.
His attorneys also said UNC determined Artis didn’t violate campus policy in his contact with the student, while a misconduct decision could have led to expulsion.
Orange County district attorney Jim Woodall dismissed the misdemeanor charges last week because “the matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of the parties.”
Artis, a senior reserve linebacker from Marietta, Georgia, played in two games before last season’s suspension.
He had similar symptoms on June 13 during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Following both episodes, Francona underwent an array of tests, and doctors ruled out major health problems.
