Jefferson returning to
Cavaliers one more year
CLEVELAND (AP) — Richard Jefferson isn’t messing with any retirement talk this summer.
After saying he would stop playing after the Cavaliers won the NBA title in 2016 and changing his mind, Jefferson said Wednesday that he will be back with Cleveland next season — his 17th as a pro.
The 37-year-old announced his plans on an episode of his “Road Trippin”’ podcast.
Jefferson, who had contemplated quitting, has one guaranteed season left on his contract worth $2.5 million. He averaged 5.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in 79 games for the Cavs, serving mostly as a backup for LeBron James. He provided Cleveland with a big lift off the bench during the NBA Finals, when he was asked to guard Golden State’s Kevin Durant and was perhaps the Cavs’ most productive reserve.

Cowboys’ LB Wilson
arrested for assault
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Dallas Cowboys linebacker Damien Wilson has been arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he was accused of backing his truck into a woman and threatening a man with a rifle during a dispute with some tailgaters.
Frisco police said Wilson was arrested Tuesday outside of Toyota Stadium during the city’s Fourth of July celebration. Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas played Tuesday night at the stadium in Frisco, a suburb north of Dallas that’s also home to the Cowboys’ practice facility.
Police said Wilson was released from jail after posting $20,000 bond. They said the case remains under investigation.

Hayward rejoining
Stevens with Celtics
BOSTON (AP) — Gordon Hayward and Brad Stevens were a couple inches from winning an NCAA championship together at Butler.
They are now reuniting, to try for an NBA title.
The top remaining free agent in this summer’s class is now off the board, with Hayward announcing Tuesday night with an essay on The Players’ Tribune site that he will sign with the Boston Celtics – coached by Stevens – and leave the Utah Jazz after seven seasons.
A person with knowledge of the negotiations said Hayward agreed to a four-year contract, the last of those years being a player option, with a total value of around $128 million. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal cannot be completed before the league’s moratorium ends on Thursday.

Indians’ Francona will
remain hospitalized
CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians manager Terry Francona will miss at least a few more games as doctors try to pinpoint his medical issues.
Francona remains at the Cleveland Clinic undergoing tests to determine what has made him light-headed and increased his heart rate over the past month.
The 58-year-old Francona was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday and will miss Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres.
At this point, it’s unclear when he’ll be discharged or if he’ll be able to manage the American League All-Star team next week.
Francona was forced to leave Cleveland’s June 26 game against Texas early after feeling dizzy and experiencing a rapid heart rate. He had similar symptoms on June 13 during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Following both episodes, Francona underwent an array of tests, and doctors ruled out major health problems.
