RHHS grad Sites prepares for her senior season

Rock Hill High School class of 2014 graduate Allison Sites is continuing her cheerleading career at the University of Wisconsin, where she is set to enter a second season this fall in her senior year.

“I was just researching schools, and the University of Wisconsin seemed like it was a good fit,” she said of choosing to attend the University of Wisconsin. “They have a really nice campus and a really nice atmosphere.”

She added that when she graduated from Rock Hill, she wanted to attend college away from home, and also looked at the University of Iowa, the University of Florida, and the University of Tennessee.

It wasn’t until her junior year that she decided to try out for the Badgers’ cheerleading team, but she said that she was glad she made the move.

“We have a lot of great opportunities to travel with the teams and go to a lot of really cool places,” she said. “I cheer for both football and basketball.”

She said the biggest difference between cheering at the college level, especially in the Big Ten, and at the high school level is the fan base and the sizes of the crowds.

“There’s so many Wisconsin fans everywhere we go,” she said. “And the number of people we cheer for is insane.”

As far as being rivals with her home state Ohio State Buckeyes, she said her family are Ohio State fans, but she wasn’t so much herself, so cheering against them doesn’t mean much to her.

“My favorite part about cheering is just getting to be on the field or courtside,” she said. “And it’s super fun to just be with the crowd.”
