William Martin
Aug. 28, 1947 — June 11, 2017
William “Bill” Lambert Martin, 69, of Coal Grove, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 28, 1947, the son of the late Charles and Edna Duty Martin. He is survived by his wife, Lois Jean Horn Martin, whom he married on Feb. 20, 1973.
Bill was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and a former letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, where he retired in 2002 after 30-plus years of service. He was a United States Army veteran and member of the VFW Post 8850. He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Charles T. Martin; and sister, Bonnie Stevens.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Mike Martin, of Waterloo; daughter, Donna Yeley, of Kitts Hill; sister, Mona Bundy, of Coal Grove; two brothers, John Martin, of Kitts Hill, and Larry Martin, of Coal Grove; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Scott Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Nina Fugitt
June 27, 1928 — June 7, 2017
Nina Mae (Dilley) Fugitt, 87, entered into the gates of Heaven to be with her Lord and loved ones on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Nina was born June 27, 1928, to the late William E. and Grace Edith (Hopkins) Dilley. On Sept. 30, 1950, she married the late James E. Fugitt.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, James E. Fugitt, Jr.; and a brother, Luther Dilley.
She is survived by two daughters, Paul (Brenda) Bruce, of Kitts Hill, and Meredith (Teresa) Malone, of Cynthiana, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Brenda Ann Simpson, Paul “Willie” Bruce and James Bruce; and three great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three sisters, Luella Pinson and Enola Cade, of Kitts Hill, and Wilma Thompson, of Mansfield.
She was an active member of Myrtle Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active with the choir. She also played piano for many years.
Funeral services were conducted at the Myrtle Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Burge and Woodrow Walls officiating. Burial was in Mamre Cemetery.
Leslie Wilson
Sept. 21, 1926 — June 11, 2017
Leslie Edward Wilson, 90, of Willow Wood, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, Kentucky. He was born Sept. 21, 1926, in Willow Wood, son of the late Elmer and Maude Baldwin Wilson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alfreda Wilson; two sons, Dean Wilson and Loren Wilson; infant grandson, Shawn Wilson; and eight siblings.
He retired from Dayton Malleable and was also an employee of the Lawrence County CAO for 12 years, retiring in 2016. He was a WWII Army veteran and a member of VFW Post 2761 in Willow Wood. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by two daughters, Virginia (Steve) Heggen, of Nevada, and Gail (David) Carpenter, of Kitts Hill; one son, Everett (Polly) Wilson, of Patriot; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Wilson, of Willow Wood; 12 grandchildren, Jo-el Whitehead, Noreen Tawney, Leslie Wilson, Layne, Adam and Lauren Heggen, Deanna Wilson, Melissa Gipson, Michael Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Chris Wilson and Dylan Carpenter; 12 great-grandchildren; special friend, Edna Moore; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, by pastor Paul Michael Booth. Burial will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, Willow Wood. VFW Post 2761, Willow Wood, will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Robert L. Hesson, 90, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, June 11, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.
