Porter Township fire expenses approved

Also approves spring maintenance activities
The Porter Township Trustees, acting on fire department business, moved on Monday evening to approve reimbursing Joey Reinhardt $1,550 for training, with funds coming from the Ohio State Fire Marshall’s Training Grant. The trustees also approved a purchase order for $2,000 to Dihl’s Fire and Safety for annual ladder and air pack testing.
In old business, they approved a purchase order for $938 to Lange Truck and Trailer Service for parts for the fire truck, to be paid from the fire fund.
In other old business, the trustees moved to approve payment of $7,978 to Mullins Construction for the completion of the pickleball court pads.
In new business, they moved to approve the 2017 proposed paving list, approve a purchase order for $10,000 to JL Kline for road and crack sealing, to be paid from the road and bridge fund, to accept bids from Tru Green ($1,745) and from Tri-State Lawn Care ($1500) for township weed control, and to award the contract to Tri-State Lawn Care.
They also moved to accept a letter of resignation from Chris Smith and to approve the employment of four certified lifeguards at the pool for the season.
Weed notices were also approved and will be sent to the owners of properties located at 47 Stewart Hollow Road, 2481 Meadow Ridge Road, 8348 Green Street, 54 Aldridge Street and 11901 Gallia Pike.
The contract for mosquito spraying was also approved. Ohio Pest Control will handle mosquito spraying for the township at a cost of $790 per night.
The trustees’ final action was to approve the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as a new vendor before entering executive session to consider the employment and compensation of township personnel.
Greg Warner, service and safety director for the road and bridge department, also reminded the trustees that spring cleanup will begin today and run through Saturday.
