CHESAPEAKE — Talk about your heart-stopping endings.
The Rock Hill Redwomen and Chesapeake Lady Panthers were scoreless through six innings and then both teams scored in the seventh.
However, Rock Hill managed to scored one more run than the Lady Panthers as the Redwomen got a 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference win on Wednesday.
“Sam Stamper leading off with a triple in the top of the seventh really got us going offensively. She is making things happen at the plate and in the field,” said Rock Hill coach Brooke Long.
“Grace Stevens had another big day at the plate. She is seeing the ball well right now. Harrah and Olderham both had huge RBI doubles for us tonight.”
Rock Hill’s Jill Hairston locked up in a battle with Chesapeake pitcher Brooke Webb. Hairston struck out seven, did not walk a batter and gave up five hits. Webb fanned four, did not issue a free pass and allowed eight hits.
Samantha Stamper led off the seventh inning for Rock Hill witih a triple and Baylie Harrah followed with an RBI double.
Then to add to the suspense, Kelsey Olderham doubled home Harrah with a two-out double and it was 2-0.
Chesapeake kept the suspense going as Lyric Bair hit a solo home run, but Hairston was able to close out the win.
Rock Hill visits South Point on Thursday. Chesapeake hosts Portsmouth on Friday.
