Pointers use early lead to cruise by Dragons

PROCTORVILLE — The South Point Pointers removed the suspense early.
The Pointers built an early big lead and went on to beat the Fairland Dragons 10-1 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
South Point wasted little time with five runs in the first inning.
Tanner Hall, Logan Wade, Jonathan Henline and Travis Dillon all singled, Max Tabor reached on an error and Beau Taylor singled.
The lead went to 7-0 in the second when Hall walked, Brody Blackwell and Wade singled for a run and a double play ball scored the second run.
Fairland got its only run in the third on a double by Tayton Hunt, a single by Zach Crawford and walks to Dairus Stapleton and Eli Bowen.
South Point came right back with three runs in the fourth.
Wade, Henline, Dillon and Tabor all reached on consecutive errors., Tabor hit into a fielder’s choice for a run and Taylor singled in the final run.
Wade was 2-5 with two RBI, Taylor was 2-4 with two RBI and Henline was 2-5.
Blackwell got the win in relief as he worked the final four innings. He struck out five, walked five and gave up just two hits.
Four different players had hits for the Dragons.
On Monday, South Point hosts Chesapeake and Fairland entertains Portsmouth.
