PORTSMOUTH — If the Green Bobcats were going to grow some flowers, they would be forget-me-quicklies.
Green lost 5-3 at Racine Southern on Friday but bounced back with a 5-2 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Portsmouth Clay Panthers on Saturday.
“You’ve got to have short memory in baseball. We shook off the loss on Friday and came out and did what we had to do,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
Trevor Carver went six-plus innings to get the win in his first start of the season. Tanner Kimbler got the final three outs for the save.
“Carver had a really solid outing, Kimbler came in and shut the door and Drew Ramey had a really big hit to give us some breathing room.”
Green (9-3, 6-0) took a 1-0 lead in the first when Tyler Darnell reached on an error, stole second and Tayte Carver had an RBI single.
Clay tied the game in the second inning with two outs on hits by Brody Riffe, Reece Whitley and Dakota Dodds.
But Green regained the lead in the third with a run when Tanner Kimbler singled, Darnell had a sacrifice bunt and Trevor Carver smacked a two-out double.
The Bobcats rallied for three runs in the fifth.
Darnell singled with one out, Tayte Carver walked and Trevor Carver lined a base hit for an RBI.
After a double steal, Drew Ramey delivered a two-run single to center.
Clay tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the seventh.
Whitley singled and Dodds walked. Carver went 3-0 on the next batter and Kimbler came on and threw three straight strikes.
Grant Hemphill singled in a run but Kimbler got another strikeout and a ground out to end the game.
Green hosts Sciotoville East on Monday.
