AID — Ringo Starr once sang the “No No” song. Symmes Valley Vikings’ pitcher Laykin Gothard added a new verse on Wednesday.
Gothard threw a “no-no” as he pitched a no-hitter in the Vikings 4-0 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Sciotoville East Tartans.
Gothard struck out 13 and walked three in recording his pitching feat.
“We got enough runs to win and Gothard threw a great game. That’s the best I’ve seen him throw all year,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.
Symmes Valley (6-6, 3-2) got the only run it needed in the second.
Derek Brace walked, stole second and scored on an error.
The Vikings got a run in the fourth when Hunter Adams walked, stole second and scored on a hit by Evan Holmes.
The final two runs scored in the fifth.
Payton Hayes doubled, Chayden Renfroe reached on an error, Brace singled in a run and a balked scored Renfroe.
Hayes was 2-4 with a double as the Vikings had six hits.
